adiNEWS and ADINJC: A Fantastic Team

What I really want to do as ADINJC chairman is drive the association forward and, by doing so, attempt to influence a new era for our industry through improvements regulations, standards and professionalism all round, along with the many rewards that such progress deserves. I believe that it is our desire to achieve this, and through collaboration and representation of all sides of the industry that has seen our membership increase rapidly over the last year in particular.

I have been contributing articles to adiNEWS for more than six years now and have got to know the adiNEWS team very well. They too have the interests of the ADI and our industry at heart, and it is these shared desires that the ADINJC and adiNEWS have come together to provide a joint offer that will provide everyone involved in driver training to join in our commitment to achieving a better industry for all. It is based on sharing knowledge and information, promoting discussion and debate, and representing the views of you, and the industry as a whole, to our regulators and the Government. Through this we believe we can become a catalyst for real productive change, change that we all desire, and change that will lead to the professional respect that we deserve.

An Incredible Opportunity

As you may know, the normal annual fee to join the ADINJC as an individual is £25 while your subscription to adiNEWS costs another £30 per year. So what have we come up with?

Well, here’s the deal: paying your annual subscription for adiNEWS will now include a year’s membership of the ADINJC. So, for £30, you get a year’s subscription to the industry’s premier magazine, as well as a year’s membership to the fastest growing and most representative association in the industry.

So how does it work? The easiest way to join is to go on-line to the adiNEWS website: www.adinews.co.uk. If you prefer you can take up the offer by calling 01273 547914 or, if you would rather fill out an application form by hand you can cut out, complete and post the form found in adiNEWS or in this newsletter.

What if I am already an adiNEWS subscriber? No problem, just renew your subscription right now, ahead of time, and any remaining months from your current subscription will be added to the new 12 month period. Your 12 month membership of the ADINJC will start immediately, ensuring that you are represented, informed and involved by the fastest growing ADI association.

What if I am already an individual member of the ADINJC? If you are currently a DIG (Driving Instructors’ Group) member of the ADINJC, the same applies. By subscribing to adiNEWS now you will renew your ADINJC ‘DIG’ membership for a further 12 months starting on 1st January 2012. You will also start to receive copies of adiNEWS immediately to your home address, and for the next 12 months.

So how are you able to do this? The ADINJC is a voluntary organisation. No one in the ADINJC receives a salary; no one is making a living out of your ADINJC subscriptions; we are working ADIs, working for ADIs. At the same time, adiNEWS is generously subsidising the usual subscription price by 50%.

What about ADIs whose local ADI group or organisation is a member of the ADINJC? We can’t make the same offer to our association members. The ADINJC already offers an incredibly attractive membership package to member groups and local associations. However, what we can do for such paid up groups is offer individual members of those groups a half-price subscription to adiNEWS magazine, that’s just £15 for the year, only £1.25 a month! All you have to do is call 01273 547914 and subscribe there and then. Of course, you have to be a group member of the ADINJC, and your group membership will have to be verified. If you are subsequently found not to be a member, your subscription will be reduced to 6 months.

Believe What You Read

By working closely with adiNEWS, we at the ADINJC believe our members, new and old, will benefit from the huge array of articles and in-depth features, training and business tips, the latest industry and motoring news and views, fantastic competitions and reader offers ad much, much from the premier magazine for the industry.

Although the ADINJC will receive some income from this offer, it will just go towards our day to day running costs. We want to communicate to more and more ADIs across the industry through improving best practice and professionalism, and the awareness, scope and depth of understanding of the issues by all ADIs. Through this joint offer, we believe we can do this more effectively.

The more ADIs can be given the opportunity to read and participate with adiNEWS, the better informed they will be; the more educated the debate and discussion, and the higher the levels of service provided for and by all those involved in delivering driver training. This helps us and adiNEWS to evolve and raise the standards of writing, research, debate and informed opinion across the industry and beyond.

Time for Change

I see this as the start of a new era for the ADINJC. We were formed in the ‘70s as an umbrella body for the associations in the industry, and so we want to ensure we work with more, and ever more closely, with all national and local ADI associations so that ADIs can be a more powerful force, and with a more unified voice. We are seeking to re-convene meetings with the DSA to which all national associations are invited. We also want the industry to do more to improve road safety, and particularly to improve the standards of recently qualified young drivers, and reduce their chances of being involved in crashes. To this end, we also intend to launch a national young driver competition. We also wish to see learners allowed on motorways, in dual controlled cars and under professional supervision. Other areas of change we would like to see promoted would be compulsory rather than voluntary registers for the industry, compulsory CPD and the phasing out of the current ADI trainee licencing system.  I’ll be writing articles on issues such as these each month, and hope that you will be reading them as a subscriber to adiNEWS, and an ADINJC member.
