Update on current issues
You will no doubt recall that Lynne wrote to the CEO, Gareth Llewellyn. As of today she has not yet received a reply.
Answers to a few questions put to us by members that we have checked out with DVSA and thought may be of interest to others:
Is fleet training included in the current restrictions?
Yes, the restrictions apply to all in-car/cab training. The ONLY exceptions are for Delegated Examiners and training in emergency services and public service vehicle sectors, who have been informed directly.
When can we expect news on Scotland and Wales?
We are expecting communications on Wales and Scotland today and will send on as soon as we have them.
Candidates living in Tier 4 areas with tests booked in another tier – why do they have to re-book their own tests, why are they not being done automatically?
DVSA experienced a lot of issues with this issue previously. Though it is a requirement to keep addresses up to date, they found [particularly with the younger age groups, students etc] the address on their provisional might still be their parents and not actually where they live. This was fraught with problems, hence the message that they will need to rebook.
What are the guidelines regarding giving lessons and taking people to test where they’ve been in contact with anyone from or visited a tier 4 area within the last, say, 5 days considering the new strain is 70% more transmissible?
The new Tier 4 restrictions came into effect at 00:01 on 20 December 2020. There is no guidance regards general contact with someone before this date. The individual should continue following national guidance should they display symptoms or receive any notification to self-isolate by NHS Test & Trace.
The NHS Test & Trace website highlights that “If you’re told to self-isolate by NHS Test and Trace or the NHS COVID-19 app self-isolate for 10 days from when you were last in contact with the person who tested positive for coronavirus”. Following that line, that you may consider a short break to assure yourself the individual does not have the virus, but wish to emphasise this is entirely at your discretion.
We are only too well aware that this is not a happy time of year for everyone and that some people may be struggling. Some of our lovely Talk Line volunteers have offered to be available in case anyone needs to talk to someone. Please feel free to call any of them –
