Introduction
The DVSA has shared the following update with ADINJC and other industry bodies regarding the publication of the updated Driving Instructor Code of Practice.
DVSA Update
The updated Driving Instructor Code of Practice has now been published on GOV.UK.
The updated code has been developed jointly by DVSA and the driver training industry, including NASP, and sets out how all driver trainers should behave to help raise standards within the industry.
It also gives learner drivers clearer expectations around how their instructor should behave, the standards they can expect and who they can contact if those standards are not met.
The updated code sets out clear standards and behaviours that driving instructors must follow and uses plain-English tiering to explain what is expected:
Must – what is required
Should – what is strongly recommended
Could – what is good practice
The code will come into force in the coming months, with DVSA confirming that the date will be announced at a webinar about the code.
The code has been published now to give instructors time to read through it ahead of the implementation date.
A joint webinar with driver training associations will also take place later in the year, giving instructors the opportunity to put questions directly to DVSA and industry representatives.
